MAYNARD FERGUSON'S CADILLAC... AUCTION TEMPORARILY HALTED ON EBAY...SITE WAS HACKED SO THEY STOPPED AUCTION ...BUT IS NOW BACK ON...ONLY 2 DAYS LEFT!!
Vehicle Description
MAYNARD FERGUSON, beloved jazz legend and high-note
trumpet virtuoso, LOVED his Cadillac! As one of the
most loved and respected jazz musicians of our time,
Maynard is remembered most often for his recording of
“Gonna Fly Now”, the theme for Sylvester Stallone’s
movie “Rocky”, among many other great works.
Offered here, on behalf of the Ferguson estate, is
Maynard's personal car, his white 1994 Cadillac Sedan
DeVille in its original condition. This is the car
Maynard loved to drive on those rare occasions when he
was not touring the world with his band.
This collectible Caddy runs well and is loaded,
including it's white leather interior, but it also
wears the badges of Maynard's carefree, "devil may
care" lifestyle in the form of various dents and
scratches, most incurred while negotiating the
driveway of his Ojai, CA home! Please view all
pictures for documentation of the car's condition.
(Please also note the picture of Maynard with some
matching "dented" horns, for your viewing pleasure, as
well as the picture of Maynard in that notorious Ojai
homestead driveway!).
A note from Maynard's daughters:
MAYNARD FERGUSON’S CADILLAC
Having spent so much of his life on the band bus,
Maynard loved to stretch out behind the wheel of his
luxury Caddy. When he was picked up at the airport
after a long tour, his favorite thing to do was to
drive home along the coast Highway and stop in Malibu
for a lobster dinner with his sweetheart Flo. A
reunion drive home often took over six hours, but good
manners prevent us from giving you the details.
FACTS OF INTEREST
In 1999 Maynard drove his Cadillac onto the Capitol
Records Lot, returning to the same studio he had been
in many times before with the likes of Frank Sinatra
and Stan Kenton. This time he was there to record “Big
City Rhythms” By Maynard Ferguson and Michael
Feinstein.
Other records he either recorded or was involved in
during the years he owned and drove this car were:
Maynard Ferguson Presents: Christian Jacob, with John
Patitucci and Peter Erskine. ~ Concord Jazz
Maynard Ferguson Presents: Tom Garling ~ Concord Jazz
Brass Attitude. ~ Concord Jazz
Maynard Ferguson Presents: The Christian Jacob Trio.
With Steve Swallow and Adam Nussbaum. ~ Concord Jazz
Mf Horn VI Live At Ronnie’s. ~ Maynard Ferguson Music.
Swingin' For Schuur (2001) _Produced by Phil Ramone
with Maynard’s Big
Bop Nouveau band and Diane Schuur ~ Concord Jazz
When Maynard was on tour he always took the car keys
with him. On the road Pete Ferguson would always be
trying to keep track of them.
In July of 2006 Maynard came home after recording his
final album:
“The One and Only Maynard Ferguson” and put the keys
in the family key drawer.
On August 21st 2006, 3 days before he passed away, his
family drove him to the hospital in his Cadillac.
During the period of driving this car Maynard was also
accorded many honors:
Induction into the Juno Hall Of Fame (1997)
The FIJM Prix Oscar- Peterson (1999)
An appointment to The Order Of Canada (2003) .
New Jersey’s Rowan University created its Maynard
Ferguson Institute of Jazz Studies during this time
and George and Laura Bush, as well as Colin Powel,
sent Maynard letters acknowledging his contribution to
American music.
The winner of the auction will receive a Letter of
Authenticity from the Ferguson family written on Mf
stationary.
Please note that the car looks elegant but does have a
few marks and scratches on bumpers and two side dents
that are larger but still cosmetic on the passenger
side.
Maynard never got in an accident; all these marks are
superficial and stem from bad parking jobs or bumping
into the planter in our driveway!
Please refer to the pictures we have included. Also,
there is a small broken plastic vent cover, which we
have also photographed for you.
